Our Story
​In 2003, this all began with an eBay store, buying, repairing, refurbishing and reselling Roland (and other top brands) electronic drumming components and hardware. For a couple years, I was the most active, largest reseller of refurbished Roland V-drum equipment on eBay, the world over.

As the years progressed, I diversified by sourcing, building and selling replacement parts for Roland V-drums, which in time lead to the creation of complete electronic drum assemblies that were in demand by DIY drummers building e-drums from scratch and through acoustic conversions.

In 2008 as the "Great Recession" began to impact the US, Roland USA began an effort curb or eliminate small independent electronic drum businesses online that were stepping on their toes by serving several of these small operators with patent infringement lawsuits. UFODrums was one of their targets because we were selling smooth conical foam cones and 2-ply mesh heads as replacement parts for V-drum products and others. Their "positional sensing" patent was still in effect, featuring a conical foam cone and a 2-ply mesh head in their patent, so they unleashed a campaign of intimidation (lawsuit) against small businesses featuring either of those products. In early 2009, UFODrums settled out-of-court with Roland USA. Several years later, in July 2017, Roland's patent expired. This enabled other manufacturers to develop similar tech, ending Roland's near-monopoly on conical foam cone head triggers and use of 2-ply mesh head e-drums.

Out of this story, UFODrums created the 8-facetted OctaCone and the broader industry introduced the 3-ply mesh head in efforts to side-step Roland's patent.

Today, UFODrums provides Acoustic-to-Electronic Conversion Trigger Assemblies, Piezoelectric Ceramic Triggers, Foam OctaCones/Cones, Rubber Rim Protectors, 3-ply Mesh Heads and Replacement Parts.

We remain an independent, specialized boutique online store that serves the needs of the electronic drummer, from beginner to enthusiast to touring professional. It has been said by many UFO eDrummers over the years that UFODrums is the best kept secret.
